Wondering what you can do to boost your chances of success as a small, product-based business owner? Have a read of the guide below – it’s packed full of plenty of useful tips, ideas and pieces of advice.

Start off running things virtually

With plenty of overheads already for launching your product line, you don’t want to spend any more than you have to, do you? It’s for this reason that it’s a good idea to start off running things virtually – don’t rent your own retail space, sell online instead. If you make your products yourself, you should also make them in your home rather than renting a space, if possible. By choosing to cut costs wherever possible, you can help to keep your business costs low and increase your chances of long-term success.

Ensure that your website is incredible

When running a business virtually, one thing that you do need is an amazing website. If you are going to make a success of your venture, you need a platform to sell off of, which is why a well-designed website comes in. The good news is that your website doesn’t need to cost you the earth – it is possible to keep costs low by opting for a WordPress site. WordPress offers some incredible designs, as well as an array of fantastic plugins, from social media plugins to live chat plugins – to learn more about WordPress live chat plugins, click here.

Speak to local shop owners

While you don’t want your own premise to start out with, you do want to source local business owners who do. Make a list of local stores that are within your brand’s niche, and reach out to these business owners to see if they might be interested in stocking your products.

Ensure that your marketing is on point

If you are going to make a success of your small business, then you need to make sure that your marketing is on point. In order for your brand to see success and make sales, you need to make sure that you have the right strategy in place. If you’re not skilled or experienced in regards to managing a marketing strategy, then it might be a good idea to outsource the task.

    1. I am often so motivated that I have 100’s of ideas but I struggle to get them further than just ideas or I go further and find its an oversaturated market! I’m getting better but some of the ideas need planning and more financial backing than I can afford but it is so hard sometimes. Thank you for reading and commenting, Helen.

  1. These are great tips! I’d absolutely love to start my own business, selling physical products but I literally have no artistic skill and wouldn’t know what to sell haha. Plus I wouldn’t have the time for it. But it seems like such a rewarding thing to do!
